An African proverb says, “When a person is hungry, tomorrow is a long way away.” Today, an estimated 800 million people are haunted by that vision of tomorrow. For children, it’s worse. Worldwide in developing countries, eleven million children die each year, mostly of hunger-related causes. Educating and training the millions of people who rely on agriculture for their livelihood is key to alleviating hunger and poverty. For as the Chinese proverb goes, “…teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime.”
