What is the LWR Community Quilt? The LWR Community Quilt is a new way for people in the U.S. to learn about and support our work in impoverished communities overseas. The symbolic quilt consists of 12 squares, each representing a different area of our work: children, education, environment, food, health, HIV/AIDS, justice, peace, relief, water, women, and work. What happens if more gifts are purchased than are needed in the areas of work represented by the quilt square categories? If total donations received for a particular type of work exceed its total funding needs, subsequent gifts will be allocated to assist work with similar goals. What happens if not enough quilt squares are purchased to cover the cost of the work listed? If not enough quilt squares are purchased to cover the full cost of work listed in the LWR Community Quilt catalog, other funding sources within LWR will be pooled to meet short-term goals to ensure help to the people who need it most. Individual Quilt Square Purchases
Will I receive a receipt for my tax-deductible gift?
Yes, you will receive a receipt for your gift to Lutheran World Relief, which is tax deductible. Your acknowledgement letter will explicitly list the work your gift has helped to fund.
Can I give a quilt or quilt square in memory of someone?
Yes! LWR will send the family of the deceased a letter notifying them of your special gift.
Will LWR send something to the person I “honored” with my purchase of a square/quilt?
If you request it, LWR will send the quilt square gift recipient a personalized card notifying them of your special gift.
Can I send an e-card to the person I am sending an LWR Community Quilt Square gift to?
Sure! When you purchase the Gift Square, click the “I wish to send an honor card by email ” button on the order form and we will send an e-card immediately.
How long does it take for the gift recipient to receive the LWR Community Quilt Square gift card?
If you chose to have LWR send the gift card, we will mail the person you are honoring a gift card within 2 business days of receipt of your gift. If you’d like to personalize a gift card, we will include one in your acknowledgement letter for you to send on your own. You can also print a gift card from our website.
Can I get extra copies of the LWR Community Quilt cards?
The LWR Community Quilt cards are available for supporters purchasing LWR Community Quilts and Quilt Square. The cards are personalized for reach gift recipient.
May I change the description of a gift (i.e. specific a certain country for my gift to be applied to or change the alpaca to a cow)?
Gifts have been selected for the LWR Community Quilt based on needs and goals of our work with partners around the world. Because of this we aren’t able to change the description of a gift or designate a more specific location.
I just want to make a contribution to LWR in honor of my pastor. How do I do that?
LWR welcomes all gifts to support our mission and ministry. LWR will send your pastor a special acknowledgement card for your gift.
I love that quilt squares support your work with children! How can I get a picture of the child I am supporting?
We cannot provide a photo or report regarding the specific impact of your gift without incurring prohibitive administrative costs, but we will provide as much information as possible about our work and the impact of your gift on our website and in our newsletter.

This pattern may be adjusted to create larger, more customized quilts.My church just sent LWR $4,000 from our benevolence fund. Can we get credit toward an LWR Community Quilt?
Unfortunately, no. The LWR Community Quilt is a new initiative and only new gifts can be applied toward the Community Quilt. [This is a special initiative to help you think above and beyond your normal giving. It should replace gifts you buy for special occasions. It’s another way to give, in addition to giving at your church, through the World Hunger Appeal, etc.]
How long does it take to complete a LWR Community Quilt?Some groups may be able to complete an entire quilt in a very short period of time; others may find they need the maximum time of a year to complete their Community Quilt. You know best how long it will take your group to complete a quilt. It really depends on the size of your group and what activities will motivate your group to complete Quilt.
What happens if my group only wants to purchase two or three quilt squares?
All gifts are welcome and meaningful in supporting the mission and ministry of Lutheran World Relief. One Quilt Square, or an entire quilt helps LWR meet the needs of women, men and children living in poverty and injustice overseas.
